Spartans Sweep Tigers To Extend Winning Streak
ST. CLOUD -- The ROCORI Spartans baseball team stayed hot on Saturday, May 22 while facing off against the St. Cloud Tech Tigers in a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader on the road.
ROCORI swept St. Cloud Tech in a pair of conference games in St. Cloud, taking down the Tigers 15-6 in Game 1 and following that up with a 5-3 victory in Game 2.
In Game 1, the Spartans tallied four runs in the second inning, five in the fifth inning and three more in the seventh inning en route to a 15-6 win with a total of 18 hits.
At the plate, Cam Miller went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI, Jack Spanier went 1-for-3 with three RBI, Connor Clark went 2-for-5 with two RBI and Carter Thelen, Jayden Philippi and Brady Blattner all added two hits and one RBI.
Blatter threw the first six innings on the mound to pick up the win for ROCORI, striking out three batters along the way. Clark pitched the final inning in relief, giving up no hits, no runs and no walks.
In Game 2, the Spartans recorded two runs in each of the first two innings, adding one more in the fourth inning to complete a sweep of the doubleheader.
Philippi, Spanier and Miller each finished with one hit and one RBI at the plate, followed by Clark, Cole Fuchs, Tyler Lardy and Tanner Rausch all adding one hit a piece.
Brady Linn pitched five innings on the hill to grab the win, giving up six hits, three runs and striking out three. Clark threw the final two innings, giving up three hits, no runs, no walks while striking out two in relief.
With the pair of victories, ROCORI improved to 10-4 in Central Lakes Conference action and 12-6 overall on the year. The sweep of the doubleheader also marked the fifth straight win for the Spartans and their eighth victory in the last nine contests.
ROCORI will return to action on Tuesday, May 25 when it takes on New Ulm on the road at 5 p.m.
