Spartans Shut Down Eagles In 7-1 Win




RED WING — The ROCORI Spartans took the field for their second game in as many days on Saturday, May 18 as part of their annual weekend roadtrip, coming out on top once again to conclude the road trip with a perfect 2-0 record.


In an afternoon battle against the New Ulm Eagles in Red Wing, ROCORI pulled away early and shut down New Ulm en route to a 7-1 win, a victory that extended the Spartans' win streak to two in a row.


ROCORI got out in front right away in the contest, scoring three runs in the first inning and two in the second, adding the final two runs of the game in the fifth inning while limiting New Ulm to just one run in the third frame.


Msx Fredin led the way at the plate for the Spartans, ending 2-for-4 with one run scored and three RBI. Tyler Prom went 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI, Jace Griffin went 2-for-3 with one run scored and Jacob Stalboerger, Riliey Bauer and Noah Olmscheid each tallied one hit and one RBI.


Along with his performance at the plate, Fredin also led the way on the mound, pitching the first five inning while giving up just three hits, one run, two walks and striking out five en route to the win. Huntcher Fuchs and Jack Boos concluded the game in relief, each pitching one inning for the Spartans.


With the win, ROCORI improved to 9-8 overall on the season and remained at 6-7 in Central Lakes Conference play. The Spartans now enter the final week of the regular season, set to take on St. Francis on May 21 at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.
