Spartans Rally Late In Comeback Win Over Warriors


COLD SPRING -- The ROCORI Spartans baseball team rallied late to come back and beat the Brainerd Warriors on Thursday, May 6 at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.


ROCORI scored all five runs in the final half of the Central Lakes Conference contest to bounce back and top Brainerd by a score of 5-4.


Going into the fifth inning trailing the Warriors 1-0, the Spartans recorded three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-1 advantage going into the sixth frame. Brainerd answered with three runs of its own in the top of the sixth, grabbing a one-run lead once again 4-3.


ROCORI kept the late rally going in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring two runs and holding Brainerd scoreless the rest of the way to win the conference showdown in comeback fashion.


Leading the Spartans at the plate was Connor Clark who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored. Jayden Philippi and Jack Spanier each recorded one hit and one RBI, while Carter Thelen went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the win.


Cole Fuchs earned a no-decision on the mound after pitching the first five innings of the game for ROCORI, giving up just four hits and one earned run while striking out five. Clark, who threw two innings of relief, picked up the win while giving up three hits, three runs and recording two strikeouts.


With the win, the Spartans improved to 4-3 in the Central Lakes Conference while moving back to the .500 mark on the year at 5-5 overall. ROCORI will return to action on Tuesday, May 11 when the Spartans travel to Fergus Falls to battle the Otters in a conference doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. in Fergus Falls.
