ROCORI Takes Two Games During Alumni Weekend
COLD SPRING — The ROCORI Spartans returned home over the weekend of May 12-13 to host two nonconference opponents during the inaugural Alumni Weekend at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.
Over the weekend, the Spartans offense exploded to combine to outscore Red Wing and New Ulm 27-3 over two games. On May 12, ROCORI shut out Red Wing while taking the game 11-0. To round out the weekend on May 13, the Spartans breezed past New Ulm 16-3 in Cold Spring.
In the first game against Red Wing, ROCORI plated two runs in the first inning and five in the second to jump out ahead early, adding two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings while also holding Red Wing to just one hit in the game.
At the plate, Beck Loesch finished 4-for-4 with five RBI and three runs scored, Jack Boos went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI, and John Kinzer and Hunter Fuchs each added one hit and one RBI for the Spartans.
On the mound, Fuchs tossed a complete-game one-hitter, giving up just one walk while striking out seven in just 71 pitches over five innings.
In the second game against New Ulm, ROCORI once again jumped out early by scoring nine runs in the first inning to put things out of reach right away in the five-inning game.
Jack Boos led the Spartans at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Grady Notch went 3-for-3 with one RBI, Jack Spanier went 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored, and Blake Tylutki, Thad Lieser and John Kinzer all drove in two runs each.
On the hill, Notch earned the win while pitching four shutout innings and giving up just two hits, two RBI and striking out three. Boos pitched the final inning in relief, striking out three.
With the pair of victories, ROCORI improved to 9-5 overall on the season while remaining at 6-3 in Central Lakes Conference play this season. Next up on the schedule for ROCORI is a CLC battle against Alexandria on May 16 at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.
