ROCORI Rallies Late For Win Over Detroit Lakes
DETROIT LAKES -- The ROCORI Spartans baseball team faced off against the Detroit Lakes Lakers on Friday, May 20 in a Section 8-3A battle in Detroit Lakes.
After trailing heading into the final two innings of the game, the Spartans rallied late to come from behind and top the Lakers 8-6 in the section showdown.
ROCORI kicked off the scoring in the game, tallying one run in the top of the first inning and later adding two more in the fourth inning. Detroit Lakes responded with three runs in the second inning and three in the fourth inning to take a 6-3 advantage through five frames, until ROCORI rattled off two runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh to pull out the two-run victory.
Brady Schafer went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and one run scored, and Peyton Randall finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored to lead the Spartans at the plate. Cole Fuchs went 2-for-4 with one RBI, Beck Loesch went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored, and Jack Spanier, Tyler Lardy and Evan Acheson each added one hit apiece for ROCORI, which finished with 11 hits as a team.
Brady Blattner started the game on the mound for the Spartans, pitching the first four innings while receiving a no-decision. Lardy threw two innings in relief to get the win, giving up two hits, no runs and no walks with one strikeout. Brady Weber pitched the final inning for ROCORI, giving up no hits and no runs.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 8-6 overall on the season while still sitting at 6-5 on the year in conference play. ROCORI returns to action on Saturday, May 21 to face Mahtomedi at 1 p.m. at St. John's University.
