ROCORI Opens Section 8-3A Playoffs Against Sauk Rapids

The ROCORI Spartans baseball team will kick off the Section 8-3A Playoffs on Tuesday, May 31, hosting a familiar opponent in Cold Spring to open up postseason play.

After getting the No. 3 seed in the section, the Spartans will host No. 4 Sauk Rapids at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31 at the Cold Spring Baseball Park. Due to Sauk Rapids having graduation that evening, the game time was moved up to accommodate the Storm players graduating.

ROCORI, which finished the regular season with a record of 12-7 overall, finished section play 4-4 to obtain the third seed. Sauk Rapids, which concluded the year 11-7 overall, went 4-3 in section play to get the fourth seed.

During the regular season, the Spartans and Storm faced off twice, with ROCORI taking the first game 5-4 on May 3 in Cold Spring and Sauk Rapids evening the two-game series with a 14-1 victory on May 7 in Sauk Rapids.

The winner of Tuesday's first-round game will advance in the winners' bracket to the second round, with that round once again being hosted by the highest seeded team. The loser of Tuesday's opening-round contest will drop into the losers' bracket and will have to win out the rest of the section playoffs.

The first two rounds of the Section 8-3A Playoffs will be hosted by the highest seed, with the final rounds of the section tournament taking place at the St. Cloud MAC.
