ROCORI Falls To New Ulm In High Scoring Affair
NEW ULM -- The ROCORI Spartans baseball team had their winning streak come to a close on Monday, May 24 despite going off for 12 runs on 13 hits on the road.
ROCORI fell to New Ulm 13-12 at Johnson Stadium, with the Eagles claiming the game behind six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win in walk-off fashion.
The Spartans tallied two runs in the fourth inning, four in the fifth inning, one in the sixth inning and five more runs in the seventh inning, holding a 13-11 hit advantage in the contest, but New Ulm ultimately was able to do enough to come out on top in the end.
Brady Blattner went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI, Jack Spanier went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, Brady Linn went 1-for-4 with three RBI and Tanner Rausch went 1-for-4 with two RBI to lead ROCORI at the plate. Carter Thelen added two hits and two runs scored, while Connor Clark and Cam Miller each finished with one hit a piece.
Cole Fuchs threw the first 3 2/3 innings on the mound for the Spartans, giving up four hits, one earned run, one walk and recording one strikeout to receive a no-decision. Clark pitched the final 2 2/3 innings in relief, giving up two earned runs and one walk.
With the loss, ROCORI's five-game winning streak came to a close, falling to 12-7 overall on the season. The Spartans remained at 10-4 in the Central Lakes Conference, with this game against New Ulm being a nonconference matchup.
The Spartans will return to action to finish up the regular season schedule on Thursday, May 27, returning home to Cold Spring to host Rogers in a nonconference contest.
