ROCORI Drops Season Opener Against St. Cloud
ST. CLOUD — The ROCORI Spartans baseball team officially kicked off the 2023 season on April 18 following a pair of weather-related postponements to start the year.
In the first game of the season, ROCORI hit the road to face St. Cloud at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud, falling in a close 3-2 contest despite out-hitting the Crush.
The Spartans kicked off the scoring in the game, bringing across one run in the first inning to take an early 1-0 advantage. St. Cloud responded in the fourth inning with three runs to grab a 3-1 lead, before ROCORI threatened a comeback in the fifth inning with one run to narrow the game to 3-2. Ultimately, the Spartans weren't able to even the game up while falling in the conference showdown.
Jack Spanier led the way for ROCORI, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run scored and one walk. Jack Boos went 2-for-3 with one RBI, Evan Acheson added a hit and Brady Schafer drove in one run for the Spartans. On the mound, Acheson threw the first four innings while striking out five, followed by Hunter Fuchs with two shutout innings in relief with five strikeouts.
With the loss, ROCORI falls to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in Central Lakes Conference play this season. Next on the schedule for the Spartans is a CLC showdown with Alexandria on Thursday, April 20 at Nelson Field in Alexandria.
