ROCORI Continues Winning Ways By Beating Brainerd
BRAINERD -- The ROCORI Spartans baseball team continued their hot streak to open the 2021 season by winning their second straight game on Friday night against a Central Lakes Conference opponent.
The Spartans hit the road yet again for the second time in as many nights and came away victorious over the Brainerd Warriors 7-2.
ROCORI finished the game with eight hits resulting in seven runs, tallying three runs in the second and sixth innings and adding one run in the third inning en route to the win.
At the plate, Jayden Phillipi led the way going 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and one run scored. Tanner Rausch went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI, Luke Humbert went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI and Jack Spanier and Brady Blattner each added one hit and one run for the Spartans.
Cole Fuchs took the mound for ROCORI in the game and pitched six innings to pick up the win. He gave up three hits, two unearned runs, no walks and struck out four. Connor Clark pitched the final inning in relief, it being a no-hit, shutout performance out of the bullpen.
With the win, the Spartans extend their winning streak to two in a row to begin the year, moving to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the Central Lakes Conference.
ROCORI will return to action next week when it remains on the road to battle the St. Cloud Tech Tigers on Tuesday in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. at St. Cloud Tech High School. The Spartans will round out the week by hosting Sartell on Thursday and Detroit Lakes on Friday at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.
