WILLMAR — The 2025 high school baseball season is officially here as the ROCORI Spartans baseball team begins the journey toward what they hope ends in a state tournament appearance at the end of the season.
ROCORI kicked off the regular season on Thursday, April 10, hitting the road to face off against the Willmar Cardinals in a Central Lakes Conference battle at Swanson Field in Willmar.
Behind a three-run third inning and a four-run fourth, the Spartans jumped out in front of the Cardinals and put on a nice offensive showing to come away with an 8-5 season-opening victory.
Tyler Prom and Jace Griffin each went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Caleb Maddox added two hits and two runs and Cal Heying had one hit with two RBI to lead ROCORI at the plate.
On the hill, Max Fredin got the starting nod for the Spartans, pitching five innings and giving up six hits, one erned run, no walks and striking out five. Prom and Nolan VanLoy finished out the game in relief, each pitching one shutout inning.
With the win, ROCORI starts the year off 1-0 in CLC play and 1-0 overall. Next up for the Spartans is another CLC battle, this time against Alexandria on April 15 in the first home game of the year at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.
