Offense Lifts ROCORI Over Alexandria For Fourth Straight Win



COLD SPRING — The ROCORI Spartans kicked off the new week of the 2023 regular season by hosting the Alexandria Cardinals on May 16 at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.


In the Central Lakes Conference battle, offense led the Spartans en route to a 10-6 victory and an extension of their winning streak to four in a row.


ROCORI jumped out to an early lead in the opening inning of the game, scoring four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-2 advantage. The Spartans added one more run in the fourth inning and five runs in the fifth to pull away from the Cardinals.


At the plate, Hunter Heidgerken hit a grand slam to lead ROCORI while Evan Acheson and Grady Notch each added one run and two RBI. Jack Boos, Brady Schafer, John Kinzer and Luke Van Erp pitched in with one hit a piece for the Spartans.


On the mound, Acheson got the win after pitching 5 2/3 innings while giving up just five hits, four earned runs, three walks and striking out four. Brady Weber threw the final 1 1/3 innings in relief, giving up one hit, no walks and no runs.


With the win, ROCORI improved to 10-5 overall on the season while moving to 7-3 in conference action. Next up on the schedule for the Spartans is another CLC battle against Sartell on May 18 in Sartell.
