ROCORI's Season Comes To An End In Section Championship
COLLEGEVILLE -- The ROCORI Spartans Baseball team had its section playoff run come to an end on Wednesday night in Collegeville.
After taking down No. 6 St. Cloud Apollo earlier on in the night to advance to face No. 1 Monticello in the Section 5-3A championship round, the second-seeded Spartans fell to the Magic in the championship held at St. John's University to have their season come to a conclusion.
Earlier on in the day, ROCORI beat St. Cloud Apollo 1-0 behind a complete-game shutout from Brady Klehr on the mound. Klehr gave up three hits, no runs, four walks and struck out seven in seven innings of work.
At the plate, the Spartans tallied the game's lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning, thanks to an RBI off the bat of Rudy Notch. Notch went 1-for-3 with one RBI, Max Hansen finished 2-for-3, Collin Eskew went 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored and Klehr went 1-for-3 with a triple for ROCORI.
After the Spartans took down the Eagles, they turned around to face No. 1 Monticello right after that at St. John's University.
Although ROCORI had the game-tying run at third base in the seventh inning, it was unable to bring the tying run in and force extra innings, ultimately falling to Monticello 4-3 in the Section 5-3A championship round.
On offense, Brady Klehr finished 2-for-4 with one RBI to lead the way for the Spartans. Nolan Notch went 1-for-4, Brock Humbert finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored and Max Hansen went 1-for-3.
Jack Steil threw a complete game on the mound, giving up six hits, two earned runs, five walks and striking out nine in six innings of work.
With the loss, ROCORI's season comes to a close with a record of 13-11 overall during the 2019 high school baseball season.
