ROCORI Falls To Monticello In Section Semifinals
COLLEGEVILLE -- The ROCORI Spartans baseball team dropped their first game of the postseason on Saturday afternoon at St. John's University.
The second-seeded Spartans fell to the top-seeded Monticello Magic 8-0 on Saturday in Collegeville in the Section 5-3A semifinals, dropping them into the losers bracket of the double elimination tournament.
With the loss, ROCORI will play in an elimination game against an opponent to be determined at 4 p.m. on Tuesday back at St. John's University. The winner of that game will have to beat Monticello twice in the championship round beginning around 6 p.m. on Tuesday at St. John's in Collegeville.
Monticello jumped out to an early lead in the game, grabbing one run in the first and third innings, before scoring three more in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead over ROCORI. The Magic ended up adding three more runs in the fifth inning en route to the win.
Brady Klehr went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and Collin Eskew finished 1-for-3 to lead the way for ROCORI at the plate.
Klehr also started the game on the mound for the Spartans, pitching the first 3.2 innings. Rudy Notch ended up entering the game and pitching 2/3 of an inning in relief, while Brock Humbert threw the final 1.2 innings for the Spartans.
