Rocori Tops Becker in Extras to Advance in Section Playoffs

COLD SPRING -- The Rocori Spartans baseball team kicked off the Section 5-3A playoffs in an exciting way on Thursday night.

The second-seeded Spartans defeated seventh-seeded Becker 5-4 in nine innings in the first round of the Section 5-3A playoffs at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.

In the bottom of the ninth, Mason Primus drove home Matthew Koshiol to bring in the game-winning run and push Rocori onto the second round of the section playoffs.

Primus led the Spartans in the game, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Matthew Waletzko and Reed Ruegemer each went 1-for-3 with one RBI and Jack Steil also drove in one run.

Primus also picked up the win on the mound in relief for Rocori, pitching three shutout innings. He gave up two hits, no runs, no walks and struck out one.

Brady Klehr started the game on the hill, earning a no-decision. He gave up eight hits, three earned runs, no walks and struck out six.

With the win, Rocori advances to face No. 3 St. Cloud Apollo in the second round of the Section 5-3A playoffs at noon on Friday at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.
