Rocori Comes Back To Beat Big Lake
BIG LAKE -- The Rocori Spartans baseball team came back to top Big Lake on Friday night at Big Lake High School.
Trailing by one late in the game, Rocori scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to take down fellow Section 5-3A opponent Big Lake 4-3 in a nonconference game.
With the win, the Spartans have now won won four straight and are winners in nine of their last 11 games.
Nick Penick led the way for Rocori in the game, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. William Huls went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three stolen bases and David Holbrook went 2-for-3 with one run scored, one RBI and two stolen bases.
Eli Emerson picked up the win in relief for the Spartans, pitching 3 2/3 innings. He gave up two hits, no runs, no walks and struck out five. Eli Backes started the game, pitching 3 1/3 innings and receiving a no-decision. Backes gave up five hits, two earned runs, one walk and struck out two.
Chance Halligan and Patrick Doperalski each had one hit and one RBI to lead Big Lake. Tanner Teige pitched three innings in relief and took the loss. He gave up three hits, two runs, no walks and struck out four.
With the win, Rocori improves to 11-6 on the season. With the game being a nonconference game, the Spartans remain 8-6 in Central Lakes Conference play this season.
Next up for Rocori is a Central Lakes Conference matchup against Willmar on Tuesday. The game, which is the final regular season home game for Rocori, is set to begin at 5 p.m. at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.
