Spartans Land Eagles, 4-1
COLLEGEVILLE -- The Rocori baseball team continued to stay hot on Thursday night against St. Cloud Apollo.
The Spartans took down the Eagles 4-1 at St. John's University. The game was rescheduled from Wednesday (due to rain) at Dick Putz Field to Thursday at St. John's.
Rocori got on the board first in the game, scoring once in the top of the fourth. The Spartans then added three runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend their lead.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Apollo scored its lone run in the game. Rocori got out of the bases-loaded jam to end that inning with giving up just one run.
Jordan Barth led the way for the Spartans, going 2-for-3 with one RBI. Matt Koshiol went 2-for-3 with one run scored and Nick Penick had one RBI.
Brandon Gill pitched 5 1/3 innings to get the win on the mound for Rocori. He gave up five hits, one run, one walk and struck out four. Eli Emerson pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, giving up one hit, no runs, no walks and struck out one.
Casey Hormann went 1-for-3 with one RBI to lead Apollo. Isaac Holthaus took the loss for the Eagles, pitching the first four innings of the game. He gave up six hits, four runs, two walks and struck out two.
With the win, Rocori improved to 9-6 in the CLC and 10-6 overall on the season. The Spartans have now won three straight games and eight of their last 10 games.
Next up for Rocori is a Section 5-3A matchup against Big Lake at 7 p.m. Friday in Big Lake.
