Spartans Sweep Sabres In CLC Doubleheader


SARTELL -- The Rocori Spartans baseball team took care of business on Tuesday night in Sartell.

Rocori swept Sartell in a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader at Champion Field. The Spartans took Game 1 by a score of 15-3 and won Game 2 6-1.

In Game 1, Rocori saved its best for late in the game, scoring 15 unanswered runs over the final three innings to win.

The Spartans trailed 3-0 heading into the fifth inning, until they tallied four runs in the fifth, eight in the sixth and three in the seventh to take the opening game.

Jordan Barth led the way for Rocori, going 1-for-3 with a grand slam and four RBI. William Huls went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, Grant Thomes went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Nick Penick, Dylan Schafer and Max Fuchs each had one RBI in the game.

Brandon Gill pitched six innings to get the win for the Spartans. He gave up sevne hits, three runs, two walks and struck out four. Eli Emerson pitched one inning in relief, giving up one hit, no runs, one walk and striking out two.

For Sartell, Brandon Kramer went 3-for-3 with one RBI in Game 1. Kramer also took the loss, pitching five innings and giving up six hits and four runs. He walked three and struck out two.

In Game 2, Eli Backes led Rocori to complete the sweep of the CLC doubleheader.

Backes earned a complete game win on the mound, giving up six hits, one run, no walks and striking out five in all seven innings.

William Huls led the Spartans at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run scored and four RBI. Jordan Barth went 1-for-3 with one RBI and Dylan Tebrake drove in one run for Rocori.

Trent Meyer went 2-for-3 to lead Sartell offensively. Isaac Schneider took the Game 2 loss, pitching 4 1/3 innings and giving up three hits, three runs and four walks.

With the sweep of the doubleheader, Rocori improves to 6-5 in the CLC and 7-5 overall on the season. The Spartans have now won four straight games and have found themselves victorious in five of their last six contests.

Next up for Rocori is a Central Lakes Conference matchup with Alexandria on Thursday, May 11 in Alexandria. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Knute Nelson Field.
