Rocori Comes Up Short Against Tech


COLD SPRING -- The Rocori Spartans baseball team came up just short against St. Cloud Tech on Thursday evening.

Rocori fell to Tech 3-2 in a Central Lakes Conference matchup at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.

The Spartans opened up the scoring in the game, plating one run in the bottom of the third. The Tigers answered with one run in the fourth inning and two in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Rocori scored once but couldn't quite complete the comeback, falling to Tech.

Nick Penick and Matt Waletzko led the way for the Spartans, each tallying one hit and one RBI in the game. William Huls, Mason Primus and Dalton Thelen each recorded a hit in the game for Rocori.

Brandon Gill was tagged with the loss on the mound for the Spartans, pitching the first six innings. He gave up six hits, three runs (two earned), no walks and struck out five. Eli Backes pitched one scoreless inning in relief.

Logan Aleshire led Tech, going 1-for-4 with two RBI. Trevor Koenig pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up five hits, two runs, three walks and striking out 12.

With the loss, Rocori falls to 3-5 in the CLC and 3-5 overall on the season.

Next up for the Spartans is a nonconference game against Red Wing at 1 p.m. Saturday in Cold Spring. Rocori will honor the 1992 championship team during the game.
