Rocori Falls To Tech In Season Opener
ST. CLOUD -- The Rocori Spartans fell in a close contest on Tuesday night against St. Cloud Tech in the 2017 season opener at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud.
The Spartans had the tying runs in scoring position with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, but couldn't bring them across the plate, falling to the Tigers by a score of 4-2.
Tech kicked off the scoring in the game, scoring twice in the second inning and once in the third inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
Rocori battled back in the sixth inning, bringing home two runs and cutting the lead to 3-2. Tech then added one run in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach for Rocori.
Dylan TeBrake led Rocori at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one RBI. Jordan Barth went 2-for-4 with one run scored and Mason Primus, William Huls and Nick Penick each added a hit for the Spartans (0-1 CLC, 0-1 overall).
TeBrake got the loss on the mound for Rocori. He went four innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs. He walked two and struck out five. Eli Backes pitched two innings in relief for Rocori, giving up two hits, one run and striking out two.
Ethan Hooper led the way for Tech, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored. Nick Schmitt went 2-for-3 2ith one run scored and Austin Nikolas added a hit and a RBI for the Tigers.
Trevor Koenig pitched five innings to get the win for Tech. He gave up two hits, no runs, two walks and struck out five.
Rocori is back in action on Thursday when the host the St. Cloud Apollo Eagles at 5 p.m. at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.
